Abstract

Book lists for young children contain names of books at appropriate reading levels but usually without consideration of nutrition meanings. Therefore, a program on “Nourishing Books” was designed to incorporate food and nutrition principles in the selection of books and design of activities to reinforce the messages for young children. The article lists goals and objectives in developing content for such programs, describes strategies for program delivery, and illustrates outcomes to children and the community. The ultimate challenge is to demonstrate an impact on the health and well-being of children and their families.
