NUTRITION SUPPORT: PDF OnlyIreton-Jones Carol S. PhD RD/LD CNSD; Garritson, Brenda MS, RD/LD; Kitchens, Lloyd MDTOPICS IN CLINICAL NUTRITION: October 1995 - p 42-48 Buy Abstract A comparison was made between outcome of cancer patients seen for a nutrition assessment (NA) and dietary counseling by a registered dietitian (RD) (Group I) and those who did not receive any intervention by the RD (Group II) from two cancer treatment sites. At site A patients were referred to the study by their physician, registered nurse, or chart review by the RD. At site B, cancer patients were routinely referred to the RD for nutrition assessment. In Group I patients, 53% of the NA parameters assessed were improved or maintained at 5-week follow-up while only 29% of the NA parameters were maintained or improved in the Group II patients. Nutrition interventions provided by the RD in a cancer outpatient clinic benefit patients with nutrition problems. © 1995 Aspen Publishers, Inc.
