People with bipolar disorder use three to four times more healthcare resources, spend four times more on healthcare, and account for approximately 15% of psychiatric admissions. In most cases, the goal of treatment is to stabilize the patient, and NPs should collaborate with a psychiatrist on diagnosis and treatment.
