Abstract

Trochanteric fixation is infrequently needed in total hip replacement, but when necessary, both short-term and long-term complications can occur with traditionally used techniques. Locking plate technology can now be used for fixation of the greater trochanter without the use of multifilament metallic cables, and has potential for a high rate of clinical success. This manuscript reviews the rationale for and implementation of a contemporary technique for the management of peritrochanteric osteotomies, fractures, and nonunions in total hip arthroplasty patients.
