Management of Acquired Hallux Varus With an Endobutton

Abstract

Hallux varus is a potentially disabling deformity that is most often a complication of hallux valgus correction. Current surgical treatment options for flexible deformities involve harvesting entire tendons or portions of tendons from the hallux for use in reconstruction. Some techniques require arthrodesis of the distal interphalangeal joint as well. Success with these techniques rely on bone-to-tendon and potentially bone-to-bone healing. We describe a technique that spares both tendons and joints, with the added benefit of early return to activity.
