The suggested rehabilitation protocol is progressive transitioning through the sequential phases of (1) immediate postoperative program, (2) preprosthetic program, (3) initial gait and prosthetic checkout program, and (4) progressive gait training program. Primary goals are to facilitate residual limb maturation, improve functional mobility, best prepare the patient for effective use of the prosthesis, and expedite community reentry. © 2007 Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Inc.
