Major reconstructive procedures may carry untoward morbidity, whereas conservative treatments may be protracted with significant delays in progression of patient function. This article describes a simple, reliable technique that achieves immediate closure of difficult soft tissue defects of the forefoot using a compression technique with a miniature external fixator. © 2006 Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Inc.
