External Fixator Assisted Immediate Wound Closure

Abstract

Soft tissue defects resulting from infections and trauma remain a challenge to heal. Major reconstructive procedures may carry untoward morbidity, whereas conservative treatments may be protracted with significant delays in progression of patient function. This article describes a simple, reliable technique that achieves immediate closure of difficult soft tissue defects of the forefoot using a compression technique with a miniature external fixator.
