Open Reduction and Internal Fixation of Displaced Calcaneal Fractures

Benirschke, Stephen K. MD; Kramer, Patricia Ann PhD

Techniques in Foot & Ankle Surgery: December 2004 - Volume 3 - Issue 4 - p 235-244

Displaced fractures of the calcaneus are best treated with open reduction and internal fixation via the extensile lateral approach. Meticulous care of the soft tissue and reduction of all portions of the calcaneus are necessary for optimal outcome. Anatomic reduction and low infection rates are obtainable. Patient compliance is critical for successful treatment.
