In Brief:
In addition to the common indications for primary cervical spine surgery, the indications for revision surgery include pseudarthrosis, adjacent segment degeneration, inadequate decompression, iatrogenic instability, and deformity. The surgical goal for pseudarthrosis is simply to obtain a fusion, while the goals for instability and deformity are more complex with a focus on decompression of any neurologic compression, correction of deformity, and stability. Ultimately, revision cervical spine reconstruction can be safe and e. ective when the appropriate indications are met with proper planning.
