In Brief:
This review article discusses the use of animal models in fusionless scoliosis surgery investigations. Although fusionless scoliosis surgery has significant theoretical advantages over other current forms of treatment, it remains controversial because of a paucity of data regarding its safety and efficacy. Animal models have provided a unique opportunity to test a variety of fusionless scoliosis implants, to study spinal growth modulation, and to refine implant strategies.
