In Brief:
Unilateral transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion using a single carbon fiber cage proved useful in three major types of spondylolisthesis: dysplastic, 11 cases; degenerative, 58 cases; and isthmic-acquired, 51 cases. When compared with historical controls reporting on the use of bilateral PLIF cages at a single level, this series had decreased operative time (P < 0.001), decreased blood loss (P < 0.001), and a reduced incidence of dural tears (P = 0.068), all advantages with the use of single-cage TLIF without compromising postoperative stability and subsequent fusion rates.
