Pedicular Transvertebral Screw Fixation of the Lumbosacral Spine in Spondylolisthesis: A New Techniquie for StabilizationAbdu, William A., MD*; Wilber, R. Geroffrey, MD†; Emery, Sanford E., MD†Spine: March 1994 - Volume 19 - Issue 6 - p 710–715 Lumbar Spine-Surgery: PDF Only Free Abstract Author InformationAuthors Controversy exists about which mehod is most appropriate for treating moderate- to high-grade spondylolistheses and symptomatic pseudarthrosis. The authors report preliminary rsults of pedicular transvertebral screw fixation, an new technique for stabilizing the lumbosacral junction in moderate-to high-grade spondylisthesis. Using this technique, fusion ws successful in three patients, two with an established pseudarthrosis. Pedicular transvertebral screw fixation provides immediate three-column stabilization of the lumbosacral junction. The technique is safe, effectve, and employs instrumentation common to spine surgery. Its use in high-grade slips makes the technique more simples to parforma than other methods fo lumbosacral stabilization. *Section of Orthopadeics, Department of Surgery, Dartmouth-Hitchock Medical Center, Lebanon, New hampshire, and the †Department of Orthopaedics, Case Western Reseve Univeristy School of Medicine, Cleveland, Ohio. © Lippincott-Raven Publishers.
