This communication presents a discussion of the basic multidimensional liquid state NMR experiments that can be applied to humic substances. A range of experiments is discussed in detail regarding the information that can be obtained for the structural elucidation of humic materials and their solution interactions. In addition, for each experiment, a short review of previous applications is included along with practical tips and guidelines. © 2001 Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, Inc.
