KINETICS OF THE ADSORPTION OF POTENTIAL-DETERMINING IONS BY POSITIVELY CHARGED SOIL PARTICLE SURFACES

Abstract

The kinetics of proton adsorption (or desorption) at the surface of positively charged soil particles was investigated. Variations of pH as a function of the reaction time were analyzed by a first order kinetic equation. Specific rate coefficients at t = 0 were also calculated by drawing the tangents at the beginning of each reaction. Special attention was paid to the effect of both concentration and nature of the supporting electrolyte on the specific rate values in relation to the particular surface charge distribution of the examined soil.
