D.Soil Science: July 1986 - p 7 Buy Abstract We analyze the steady infiltration of water from a spherical cavity for simple versus variable hydraulic properties. An accurate numerical solution is developed so that the flux across the cavity wall can be calculated and used to compare with an earlier analytical result for simple hydraulic properties. Numerial results are obtained for the flux for variable hydraulic properties. The previous comparison is then used as a base to modify the analytical result and obtain a method of predicting the flux across the cavity wall in the case of variable hydraulic properties. The method appears to be very accurate and shows that the soil properties far from the source tend to dominate the flux across the cavity wall. © Williams & Wilkins 1986. All Rights Reserved.
