The total number of hospitals who reported possible deceased donor (DD) cases during the year 2013 was 92 hospitals. These were divided into either large (>20 ICU beds), medium (10-20 ICU beds) or small (<10 ICU beds).
Large hospitals (34) reported 241 cases, (42% of the total), of which 134 (56%) were fully documented and 31 consents were obtained for organ donation (40% of total consents).
In this group, ten consents were obtained from King Saud Medical Complex-Riyadh (KSMC). KSMC is the largest source of consented cases in the kingdom for the last eight years. King Abdulaziz Medical City (National Guard Hospital), Riyadh came next with seven consents followed by King Fahd Hospital-Jeddah with four consents. King Abdul-Aziz University Hospital-Jeddah and Ar-Ar Central Hospital each had three consents. King Faisal Specialist Hospital-Jeddah, Dr. Sulaiman Al-Habib-Al-Rayan Hospital, King Saud Hospital-Unaiza and Obeid Specialized Hospital-Riyadh, each contributed with one consent.
Medium sized hospitals, with 10-20 ICU beds, contributed with 237 cases (42%) of the total reported cases) and 29 consents (38% of total consents) were obtained for organ donation.
The most active hospitals in this group were Prince Salman Hospital-Riyadh and King Khalid Hospital-Al-Kharj with five consents for each, followed by King Fahd Specialist Hospital-Qassim and Al-Rass General Hospital each with four consents. Then came Al-Iman Hospital-Riyadh with three consents. The National Hospital-Riyadh and Al-Manea Hospital-Dammam each contributed with two consents. Lastly, one consent was obtained from each of the following hospitals: Al-Noor Hospital-Makkah, Buraidah Central Hospital, King Fahd Hospital-Hofuf and King Fahd University Hospital-Khober.
Small sized hospitals, with less than 10 ICU beds, shared with 61 possible deceased cases (11% of the total Possible DD) and five consents were obtained from them i.e. (6.5% of total consent). Among this group, Jubail General Hospital was the most active with two consents followed by one consent for Al Thager Hospital-Jeddah, Al Mowasat Hospital-Dammam and Al Manea General Hospital-Jubail.
Activities of the organ sharing program between the Kingdom and GCC countries showed that 12 consents were obtained for organ donation under this program; distributed between Kuwait Hospitals (9 cases) and Qatar Hospitals (3 cases).

Distribution of consents by region shows that 44 (57%) consents were obtained from the Central region (33from MOH hospitals, seven from Govt. Non-MOH hospitals and four from private hospitals). The Western region came next with ten (13%) consents; followed by Eastern region with eight (10%) consents then the Northern region with three (4%) consented cases.
