Dr Berde is Investigational New Drug holder and Dr Cravero is principal investigator of an ongoing phase 1 study of neosaxitoxin for prolonged-duration local anesthesia. Dr Berde, his collaborators, and Boston Children’s Hospital have been issued patents and are involved in negotiations for potential commercial development. In the event of future commercial development, Dr Berde, his collaborators, and Boston Children’s Hospital could receive royalties and research support. Dr Berde is a consultant to Cubist Pharmaceuticals on opioid antagonists and to CVS on opioid safety. Dr Boretsky is a consultant to Pajunk.
