The role of glucose meters in health care has changed dramatically over the last 2 decades. These changes have been driven by pioneering research studies, evolving practice guidelines, and improved glucose meter technology. In this review, I will summarize various uses of glucose meters and the best available evidence on the level of accuracy required for different clinical settings.
