"The Glass Ceiling" in academic medicine used to be attributed to an "unfilled pipeline," but that pipeline is getting more and more full. In fact, in 2018- 2019 for the first time ever, women entering medical school outnumbered men. So why aren't we seeing similar increases in women leaders in our institutions, including in academic plastic surgery programs? In this video, Rod J. Rohrich, MD, Editor-in-Chief of " Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, " discusses trends discovered and solutions proposed in a new study that analyzed the gender diversity in 100 academic plastic surgery programs in the United States from residency to chair to dean.
