AESTHETIC FACIAL RECONSTRUCTION IN ADULTS AND CHILDREN SYMPOSIUM (#311)

The Aesthetic Facial Reconstruction in Adults and Children Symposium (#311) will be held February 23 to 25, 2005, in Tucson, Ariz. The symposium will be chaired by Frederick Menick, M.D., Dennis Nigro, M.D., and Bruce Bauer, M.D. This year’s program will focus on facial, nasal, eyelid, and ear units as well as cleft lip repair. Lectures will cover microtia and acquired ear defects, eyelid repair and treatment of postblepharoplasty deformities, facial burns, and techniques and principles of free tissue transfer to the face. Tissue engineering and facial transplantation will be featured. Appropriate coding practices for facial repair procedure will be addressed. Abstracts are invited for submission. PERSPECTIVES AND ADVANCES IN PLASTIC SURGERY SYMPOSIUM

The Perspectives and Advances in Plastic Surgery Symposium (#302) will be held March 12 to 15, 2005, in Vail, Colo. It will be chaired by Mark Codner, M.D., and Louis Bucky, M.D. This year’s meeting focuses on new ideas and innovations in plastic surgery. Faculty will present their techniques, results, and complications in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. Presentations will emphasize safety and demonstrate procedures through the use of intraoperative videos and handouts. Panel discussions will conclude each session with questions from the audience. Meeting registrants are encouraged to present difficult cases and complications at the end of each session for faculty and group discussion. Topics include common reconstructive cases, such as nasal, eyelid, and breast reconstruction, as well as a variety of advances in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. New technology in noninvasive procedures including injectables, resurfacing, and skin care will be covered. Due to the overwhelming interest in practice management and marketing, an optional evening seminar will feature Karen Zupko, an expert in the field. PLASTIC SURGERY SENIOR RESIDENTS CONFERENCE

AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF PLASTIC SURGEONS’ ACADEMIC SCHOLAR PROGRAM

The American Association of Plastic Surgeons is now accepting applications for its Academic Scholar Program. This is a 1-year scholarship, renewable for a second year, of $30,000. The program is designed for junior faculty members to enable them to get launched on a career in academic medicine. Surgeons eligible for the Academic Scholar Award are individuals who have completed their residency in plastic surgery not longer than 5 years prior to the initiation of the award on July 1st of a given calendar year.
