The use of several thin strips of fat rather than a single large piece to close the wound of translabyrinthine acoustic tumor surgery substantially reduces the incidence of postoperative cerebrospinal fluid leaks. In our series of 230 patients, only 1 had postoperative CSF leak that required surgical closure, for a leak rate of less than 0.5 percent.
