An isolated case of bilateral congenital absence of the stapes occurring in association with cervical spine anomalies is presented. These findings are felt to represent an incomplete expression of Goldenhar's syndrome, an uncommonly reported entity. The embryology of these structures is discussed, and a plea for early recognition and evaluation of such congenital anomalies and hearing loss in children is made.
