Central visual fields were measured for 130 normal patients aged from 10 to 80 years using the Goldmann perimeter. The size of the central visual field was measured by determining the area (in square millimeters) of the central isopter on the Goldmann field chart. The area of the visual field shows a steady decrease with age, with the result that a 60-year-old's central field is only 52% of the size of a 20-year-old's central field.
