Recognizing the dearth of information in the United States regarding vision care in India, the writers present a profile of Indian optometry drawn from a six-month study tour, September, 1968, to March, 1969. The report summarizes the country's visual health needs, manpower shortages, and the establishment of Indian optometry. A graphic picture of the optometric services offered the Indian public is drawn from a survey of Delhi optometrists and opticians. The current status of the optometric profession and anticipated future developments are discussed.
