In Brief:
This study for the first time demonstrated expression of 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), an oxidative stress marker, in levator aponeurosis tissues from involutional and congenital blepharoptosis, and normal adult subjects. Striated muscle located in levator aponeurosis of involutional ptosis contained high 8-OHdG-positive cells, suggesting that not only aging but also oxidative stress plays an important role in the pathologic study of involutional ptosis.
