Although continuous electronic fetal heart rate (FHR) monitoring in labor has been widely used for several years, its ability to significantly improve neonatal outcomes has not yet been realized. The difficulty of correctly interpreting FHR tracings has been suggested as a contributing factor to this lack of improved outcomes.
