In 2001, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality released a list of 27 patient safety indicators. The number 1 indicator was the rate of complications of anesthesia. To ensure that this indicator remains relevant and reliable across hospitals, logistic models are used for risk adjustment that take into account patient characteristics and the types of procedures.
