Abstract

Cardiomyopathy is increasing as a cause of maternal death, up from 8% in 1991 to 1997 to over 12% in 1998 to 2005. A 2002 study in North Carolina showed cardiomyopathy to be the leading cause of maternal death, accounting for >20% of deaths.
