Gestational weight gain (GWG) is associated with maternal and offspring complications, both during pregnancy and later in life. While studies have shown that interventions based on diet, physical activity, or both can limit GWG, the findings for their protective effect on maternal and fetal outcomes have varied, and it is not clear which subgroups of women may benefit most from such interventions.
