The blueberry, one of the oldest known fruits, is estimated to be more than 13,000 years old! A native American species of the genus Vaccinium, it was cherished by early American settlers as a staple ingredient in their diets and for its medicinal value. Today, blueberries are available fresh for 8 months of the year and in various forms year-round.
