This paper on the nutritive value and patterns of use of the avocado is the first in a series on fruits and vegetables and their place in the American diet. Dietary guidance currently recommends that Americans eat at least five servings per day of fruits and vegetables and preferably two to four servings of fruits and three to five servings of vegetables per day.
