To lest the validity of a modified instrument designed to measure job satisfaction, based on one presented by Porter (Porter and Lawler, 1965, 1968), 351 registered nurses in 55 patient units in hospitals completed the 22-item, four-factor—intrinsic, involvement, interpersonal, and extrinsic—questionnaire. When answers were subjected to matched-pair correlations, the instrument was found to have properties ascribed to it and to measure job satisfaction as an organizational variable.
