Abstract: Caring for critically ill older adults presents many challenges for critical care nurses. One challenge is the management of complex pharmacotherapy in the presence of the normal physiologic changes associated with aging.

Complex pharmacotherapy management is a particular challenge in the care of critically ill older adults. Explore the science of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, as well as nursing implications.

Roberta Kaplow is a clinical nurse specialist at Emory University Hospital, Atlanta, Ga.

Carrie Griffiths is an assistant professor of pharmacy at the Wingate University School of Pharmacy, Wingate, N.C.
