The shortage of critical care nurses often necessitates hiring Inexperienced new graduates. This practice often results in disillusioned, unhappy nurses and high turnover rates. To facilitate the transition from student to critical care practitioner, The Johns Hopkins Hospital instituted a critical care practicum, open to senior students in four university schools of nursing. This article discusses the course design, objectives, Implementation, and outcomes.
