ABSTRACT THE SNATCH IS ONE OF 2 LIFTS IN THE SPORT OF WEIGHTLIFTING. THE SPLIT CATCH POSITION WAS THE TECHNIQUE OF CHOICE IN THE PAST. HOWEVER, VIRTUALLY ALL WEIGHTLIFTING ATHLETES NOW CATCH THE SNATCH IN A SQUAT POSITION. WITH ATHLETES IN SPORTS OTHER THAN WEIGHTLIFTING THERE MAY BE ADVANTAGES IN CATCHING IN AN ALTERNATING SPLIT POSITION.
