summary

Gestational diabetes mellitus is a type of diabetes that typically develops in the second or third trimester of pregnancy and abates shortly after childbirth. Because this condition represents a state of altered insulin sensitivity, incorporating exercise as a preventative tool and management strategy appears to be a logical intervention.

Jay Dawes is a faculty member of the Kinesiology and Health Studies Department at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
