Letter to the Editor

I enjoyed Dr. Brey's article, "Not So Rare." I've been under the care of a neurologist for several years now for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and dementia. About five months ago, I developed severe muscle pain. It got to the point where I was unable to walk or move my arms (I've ran half marathons for over 15 years now). After a LOT of blood tests and other testing, my neurologist still is not sure what it is I have. I have been on prednisone, which helps greatly, but I really hate the side effects. I did have a seizure about a month before the symptoms started that resulted in a very painful fall. I also was in a minor auto accident about a week before these symptoms started. My neurologist has hinted it could be some rare autoimmune disease but nothing definitive. Sure gets frustrating.
