Non Melanoma Skin Cancers are the most common malignancies occurring in white populations with an increasing incidence each year. These trends may be exacerbated by further increases in both acute and prolonged exposure to sunshine together with the increasing number of older people in the population. For the moment there are no accurate data on these lesions at European level and as a result their incidence is probably underestimated. In addition the workload generated is also significantly underestimated by health economists and healthcare managers.

European Prevention Initiative for Dermatological Malignancies (EPIDERM), a Project funded by the European Commission aims to acquire and disseminate knowledge on skin cancers (SC) relating to their occurrence, risk factors, and treatments to develop prevention and risk reduction strategies and best practice recommendations.
