Cecilia Galvis is Coordinator of Family Health Promotion and Gloria Baroni is a Resource Specialist and Prenatal Health Educator for Mercy Mobile Health Care, Atlanta. Ora Stickland, a Clinical Nurse Researcher in MCH, is a Professor of Nursing at Emory. This manuscript was supported in part by a K07 Academic Investigator Award (NR00054) from the National Institute for Nursing Research of the National Institutes of Health, a Rockefeller Foundation Individual Residency at the Bellagio Study and Conference Center, Bellagio, Italy, and grants from the Hershey Family Foundation, Concord, Massachusetts and the Emory University Research Center. The authors' next project will be a randomized case-control study to assess the effectiveness of the intervention described here to alter attitudes, intentions, and behavior related to drug use and risky sexual behavior, and to build resilience and protection in the subjects' lives.
