Publishing a Supplemental Issue in Medical Care

Do you want to edit your very own special-themed issue of Medical Care? Do you want to sponsor or publish a collection of research and expert opinion articles on an important study or topic in health care?  Medical Care's supplement publishing program is the solution to help you achieve your goal. Supplements (also known as supplemental issues) are themed, peer-reviewed issues that can publish print and online alongside one of Medical Care's 12 regular issues. Supplemental issues are fully indexed in PubMed, MEDLINE, Web of Science, and other major bibliographic databases.

Below are some of the options for publishing a supplemental issue. We have several different publishing options to suit your needs.

Supplement Publishing Options

Option A: Printed and Online Supplemental Issue:

  • 98 pages
  • 12-15 papers, includes briefs, commentaries, editorials, Editor's Choice, research papers.
  • Funder names guest editor(s) for this supplement.
  • Printing and mailing to all subscribers and affiliates membership
  • Includes online publication in addition to print copy, with availability on LWW-MedicalCare.com and Ovid research platform.
  • Inclusion/indexing of supplement articles in PubMed/MEDLINE and other major bibliographic databases
  • Includes 2 pages of Funder advertising.
  • 200 complimentary print copies for Funder and/or authors.
  • An open access option is available for an additional fee.

Option B: Online Only Supplemental Issue:

  • 98 pages
  • 12-15 papers, includes briefs, commentaries, editorials, Editor's Choice, research papers.

  • Inclusion/indexing of supplement articles in PubMed/MEDLINE and other major bibliographic databases

Editorial Support:
Your supplement will be given an exceptional level of support from the Journal's editorial team, including:

  • Kick off call with the Medical Care's Editor(s), Publisher, and Managing Editor to develop a timeline for 
    publication.
  • Optional promotion of your call for papers or call for abstracts by the Publisher (if needed)
  • Management of the peer review process provided by the Medical Care's Editor(s) and Managing Editor
  • Free tutorials for authors on topics such as writing and formatting manuscripts for submission to the Journal
  • Free tutorials and training for invited peer-reviewers and guest editors on scientific peer-review
  • Delivery of specialized instructions and templates for manuscript submission.
