Management of the newborn with an abdominal wall defect presents multiple challenges for the WOC nurse. This article discusses 2 types of abdominal wall defects, gastroschisis and omphalocele. An understanding of the similarities and differences in these complex defects assists the WOC nurse to care for these patients and their families.
