ABSTRACT Many military trauma surgeons have helped to advance the management of vascular injuries during wartime. The five surgeons highlighted—Sir George Henry Makins, Michael E. DeBakey, Harris B. Shumacker, Jr., Carl W. Hughes, and Norman M. Rich—made significant and lasting contributions.
