We were interested in how well parents are functioning immediately after a type 1 diabetes diagnosis, particularly around mealtimes. We aimed to examine family demographic, medical, and psychosocial factors related to parents’ mealtime behaviors to better understand early functioning across multiple domains. The data used in this article is part of the First STEPS trial, an R01 grant from the NIDDK. We found that soon after a child’s diagnosis of type 1 diabetes, parent psychosocial factors were significant when controlling for medical and demographic factors. Also, parents of children using CGM at baseline perceived their mealtime behaviors as more problematic.
