First-author Chloe Beacham discusses findings from the article “Screening for Autism Spectrum Disorder: Profiles of Children Who Are Missed”. Screening measures such as the Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers, Revised (M-CHAT-R) and the Ages and Stages Questionnaire, 3rd Edition (ASQ-3) are parent-report questionnaires that target autism symptomatology and broad developmental delays respectively. This study sought to examine the profiles of children with autism spectrum disorder who are missed by these commonly used screening measures and also to build upon the current literature on the benefits of a combined screening approach.
