Survey research involves looking at the relationships between sociological and psychological variables and relies on various methods of data collection, including in-person and telephone interviews and questionnaires that are mailed or used with an interview or group administration. Each method has the potential for error or inaccuracy. This article introduces various types of survey research while focusing on questionnaire development and use. Recognizing and accounting for survey measurement error when using questionnaires also is discussed.
