AASLD Pediatric Single Topic Conference Biliary Atresia

December 6–8, 2002, Emory Conference Center, Atlanta, Georgia. Course Directors: Joel Lavine, MD, PhD; Kathleen B. Schwarz, MD and Ronald J. Sokol, MD. This scientific symposium, the first AASLD Single Topic Conference devoted to a pediatric hepatology topic, is designed for physicians, surgeons, faculty, fellows and research associates who are actively involved in research and clinical care of infants and children with biliary atresia and other forms of neonatal cholestasis. International experts in the fields of pediatric and adult gastroenterology, hepatology, immunology, epidemiology, pathology, molecular and cellular biology and genetics will present their research and ideas at this symposium. One of the goals of this symposium is to stimulate investigation into the etiology and pathogenesis of biliary atresia and related childhood cholestatic disorders. It is hoped and believed that new ideas and collaborations will emerge from this symposium by bringing together this diverse group of active investigators and scientists.

Course objectives:

Advance our current understanding of the etiology, epidemiology, immunology and pathogenesis of biliary atresia and related neonatal hepatobiliary disorders.

Stimulate research and collaboration in these areas.

Develop the scientific basis for new, more accurate diagnostic techniques and improved therapeutic approaches to improve the outcome for biliary atresia and related disorders.

Registration for first-time applicants: September 16, 2002, through December 16, 2002 (postmarked).

Registration for re-registrants: December 16, 2002, through March 15, 2003 (postmarked).

The final month of each registration requires payment of a late fee.

First-time applicants using fellowship training to qualify for subspecialty examinations may complete applications online during the registration periods for new applicants.
