Journal of Pediatric Surgical Nursing (JPSN) is the official journal of the American Pediatric Surgical Nurses Association, Inc. (APSNA).
Our Mission
The mission of the Journal of Pediatric Surgical Nursing (JPSN) is to provide original, peer-reviewed articles, case studies, clinical reports, research papers, and narratives that promote excellence in pediatric surgical nursing practice as defined by the American Pediatric Surgical Nurses Association, Inc. We publish papers that focus holistically upon the pediatric surgical patient, expanding beyond hospital procedures and protocols to include family-focused care and ethical considerations in support of the child at home and in the community, from pre-birth fetal diagnosis and infancy through adolescence and young adulthood. JPSN relies on an evidence-based perspective to present trends and issues that impact pediatric surgical patients and their caregivers through educational offerings, nursing research, professional collaborations, and peer support. Submissions accepted will be representative of the continuum of care delivered from surgical diagnosis through recovery, including chronic conditions requiring long term management, and in a variety of settings including the hospital, at home, in school, in the clinic, long-term care or care at the end of life. We publish papers on hospital and clinics operations, global heath, quality improvement, resource management, cost saving measures, and telehealth and technology. A critical mission of JPSN is to support pediatric surgical nurses in their professional lives and responsibilities to society as it relates to advocacy, specialty recognition, health policy and professional practice issues and socialization specifically facing the pediatric surgical nurse in pediatric surgical practices.
We encourage all writers with pediatric surgical expertise or related focus including writers outside of the United States to submit articles to JPSN. Authors are encouraged to submit research-based, clinically focused, academically sound articles that (1) add new knowledge to the field of pediatric surgical nursing; (2) codify existing knowledge; (3) enhance the present and future roles of practitioners in the field, and/or (4) contribute to global health nursing. Authors should use the research reporting guidelines from the
Equator website to guide their manuscripts. As a journal published by Wolter-Kluwer, we adhere to the publishing ethics
as delineated by the Committee on Publishing Ethics (COPE).
We also seek papers for our columns in Pharmacology, Ethics, Library Science, Name That Diagnosis, Narrative Medicine, and Letters to the Editor. We publish four times a year online and consider articles for publication ahead of print. The list of
Editorial Board members can be found on the Journal website. All articles will be sent for double-blind peer-review. All articles are run through a plagiarism manager and articles must show below 25% similarity to previously published work. The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision regarding acceptance or rejection of all articles. Published articles will be indexed on CINAHL and Ovid.
Indexing: Journal of Pediatric Surgical Nursing is cited in EBSCO A-Z, Ex Libris, HINARI, JournalGuide, ProQuest, TDNet and CINAHL.
