Nursing Organizations Alliance’s [NOA] 21st Annual Fall Summit-In Brief
NOA is a collaborative community of elected and staff leaders of professional nursing organizations designed to connect, inspire, and provide a forum for information sharing of resources and best practices to address common interests to achieve goals. NOA holds two events each year, the conferences are the Nursing Alliance Leadership Academy [NALA], and the Fall Summit. As a member, APSNA participates in each meeting and I was fortunate to attend the 21st Fall Summit held in downtown Des Moines, Iowa on November 17-19, 2022.
The Fall Summit allowed me to network and participate in sessions to help advance our nursing profession and our organization as a whole. Over 50 national/international nursing organizations were represented at the Fall Summit.
Featured speakers and topics ranged from “What Great Leaders do to Advance Health Equity”, by Kenya Beard EdD AGACNP-BC CNE FAAN, “Let’s Talk About Conferences; Marketing, wellness, in-person vs. remote vs. hybrid & more”, by Molly C. Marsh CMP, “The Future of Membership is Now-Exploring Membership Structures, a.k.a. Having a non-member strategy”, by Nikki Golden, CAE, “Attendee & Member Engagement Across the Generations”, by Donte P. Shannon, FASAE, CAE, “What an Exhibitor Wants-Enhancing Your Exhibit/Sponsorship Program”, by a panel of professional marketers and sales including Elizabeth Buckley, Adam Fractenberg, Chris Henrichs, Traci King and Amber Smith, and “Trauma Informed Care in Health Care Settings”, by Holly Austin Gibbs, author of Walking Prey: How America’s Youth are Vulnerable to Sex Slavery.
Breakout sessions provided network opportunities and activities to discuss our personal leadership experience. This included speaking of our-selves and sharing our best qualities whether that is being a good listener, multitasking, how we can improve our mentoring skills, what we find valuable in membership from novice to expert, and gave me a platform to ask questions for other organizations related to conference success-in-person, virtual or hybrid, vendor recruitment during inflated economy, how to attract SIG involvement, and where the future is leading us as a nursing profession in whole.
As APSNA is an intimate organization that demonstrates respect, diversity and inclusion of specialized professionals in pediatric surgery, we have a strong workforce of volunteers and members that allows us to continue to strive to be the premier forum for growth and innovation as the clinicians, researchers, educators, mentors, advocates and administrators within this specialty. I was honored to attend to a great many elected and staff leaders of professional nursing organizations. Thank you, NOA.
