Dear JPSN readers,

As we celebrate our fifth anniversary as a journal and my contract as Editor in Chief comes to an end, I have had time to reflect on where we have been and where we are headed. From the previous issues of editorial, I presented data from the last several years; we as the editorial board are proud that we have continued to increase readership not only with our society but also globally with increased readership in multiple countries so that we may continue to disseminate all of our good work in pediatric surgery worldwide. We have also had several articles published in the Journal from international authors. Nancy Browne from our editorial board and mentoring service has worked with 27 new authors over the past 5 years to help them publish their first article! Congratulations to those new authors and to Nancy for making such an important impact. We have a small but mighty editorial board that has worked endless hours to grow and produce a great journal for our society. I will be forever grateful to these amazing colleagues for their hard work, insight, and friendship.

To review some background on our Journal, we are a society-based journal, which means that we are affiliated with a society—the American Pediatric Surgical Nurses Association. We are published quarterly, so we have four issues per year that are printed electronically, which is the way most journals are choosing to print. We have an ISBN number as we are an official scientific journal that is indexed. When we have articles that have approved grant funding, the articles are registered by our publisher into the PubMed database. Our contract has been renewed with Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Publishing under the global company Wolters Kluwer. Lippincott uses the OVID database system to publish their scientific journals. The journals are then marketed and sold to academic libraries around the world. JPSN may be accessed via the OVID database. As society members, you receive a free subscription, and JPSN can be accessed via the society Web site www.apsna.org under the Journal tab.

Moving forward strategically, I feel that it is important to continue our dissemination of evidence with new and seasoned authors who work in the field of pediatric surgery. JPSN needs your assistance by authoring and reviewing for and reading JPSN! Over the next decade, JPSN should strive to increase its social media presence, which will influence our impact with H factor, and we should increase our global readership and authorship and research articles to then consider applying for an impact factor. I look forward to the new growth and impact JPSN will make!

Thank you again to all of you for your continued support!

Respectfully,

Kimberly McIltrot, DNP, CPNP, CWOCN
