CAN IN-SERVICE Education HELP Prepare Nurses for Spiritual Care?

This pilot study testing the effect of a 2-hour class on staff nurses' spiritual perspectives yielded promising results.

Anna Cerra, DNP, RN, is Nurse Manager of Surgery and Orthopedics at Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich, Connecticut. She serves as the liaison to the hospital's patient population with regard to meeting their spiritual needs. She embraces and supports students from the spiritual care department who train at the hospital. Anna is the recipient of multiple awards and honors in recognition of her clinical expertise.

Joyce J. Fitzpatrick, PhD, RN, FAAN, is Elizabeth Brooks Ford Professor of Nursing at Bolton School of Nursing, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. She has been the investigator for a number of studies focused on spirituality and spiritual nursing interventions and is particularly interested in spirituality as it is related to life meaning conceptualizations.
